Everyone has a dream and so did Aseem Varma and his wife, Neetu Varma. Their dream was to get out of the proverbial rat race that made them stay in large overcrowded, polluted cities as they trudged along with their daily lives, working on weekdays, paying the rent, education bills, food bills, electricity bills, EMI of the car and a house, the circle was never ending. Constantly trying to keep up with their lifestyle, upgrading their house, car and daughter’s education ensured that the wheels of their life kept getting more deeply entrenched. They realised that they had to break this circle.
Aseem Varma was a hotelier by profession. In 1992, he had joined the Taj group at the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai as a management trainee. After spending a decade with the Taj group, he resigned and joined the Hyatt as the Director of Sales. A few years later, he joined the Intercontinental Hotels Group at the Sahar, Mumbai. For a few years, Neetu Varma and he moved to Dubai. After returning to India, he worked with the ITC Hotels as a General manager for nearly a decade.
Neetu Varma, completed her MBA in 1999. Since she always had a passion for travelling, she joined a well-known travel hub in Delhi and then worked as the Branch Head with MakeMyTrip.
Back in 2001 when Aseem Varma was 41 and Neetu Varma was 35, we embarked on our entrepreneurial journey.
Aseem Varma and Neetu Varma had imagined a small home in the mountains. After searching for a long time, they finally found a small, run down cottage which was surrounded by lush forests, with a brook flowing close enough for us to see and hear it. It was love at first sight. It resembled the perfect picture every child draws of a mountain, with a small fenced hut, a man with a goat, a tree and a river flowing by, while the sun peeped over the mountain in all its glory with the hand drawn orange spikes as two clouds float by.
Finally, they were able to own and establish a Home in the Mountains - The Brigadiers Cottage.
Neetu Varma is an intuitive Tarot Cards reader. She was always drawn to spirituality and meditation and is a self-taught artist and an interior designer now. She has helped restore the cottage and design it into a lovely home, just the way they had imagined. Their dream finally came true in the form of The Brigadiers Cottage in May 2016.
Now, The Brigadiers Cottage is among the best cottages in Mussoorie offering guests a lovely experience that they will cherish for a lifetime. The cottage comes with huge, open spaces with lawns, kitchen gardens, chirping birds, barking deer, wild fowl and fresh air, that one rarely gets to experience in cities.
